lonehands: jemima kirke moved to tears at marina abramovic’s the artist is present in the 2010 performance piece at the MoMA, visitors were invited to sit facing abramovic for as long as they liked, bringing forth a heavy range of emotions across participants as time passed. the atmosphere between abramovic and each participant was transformed as abramovic fed off the visitor’s expressions, thus having their emotions reflected back to them, and eventually heightening them.  some visitors were brought to tears or reached an expression of typically intimate emotion after a mere three minutes in duration, while others stayed seated with abramovic for nearly and hour. jemima reached the above reaction after a duration of seven minutes.
